How to Find the Perfect Wood Shed Plans

Many homeowners discover after they have purchased their home that they do not have enough storage space. This is when they start pining for a shed or more room to store there stuff.

Unfortunately many homeowners choose to go to a local chain hardware store and purchase a plastic shed that will not last for very long.

They do not realize that it is easy and economical to construct a reliable shed that will be there for many years to come. Finding the perfect wood shed plans, however, is an essential step.

How Large Should Is Large Enough?

As you begin to look at wood shed plans, the first thing you need to do is decide how large you need your shed to be. Think about what you will be storing in it. Some people choose to store their lawn mowers and yard equipment, while others use a shed to hold smaller things.

As long as the shed is water tight, you can house anything you would like to in it. There are even those who build a large enough shed that they can place their patio furniture in it. Choosing plans to accommodate your needs will be quite helpful in the long run. Buying a shed is like a buying a sailboat, you always wish it was a few feet bigger :-)

Should You Insulate Your Wood Shed?

Next you should think about whether or not you want your shed to be insulated. If you live in a place where it is warm year round, you can probably forego insulating the shed. If, however, you live in an area where winter is nearly six months out of every year, and you plan on putting items susceptible to the cold in your shed, you may want to pay a few extra dollars to insulate it.

Hot Tin Roof?

What isn’t included in some wood storage sheds is the roofing material. Many home owners assume that they have to put shingles on the roof, but this may not be the case. It is often a better deal to use tin as a roofing cover, instead of shingles, especially if you live in a place that receives a lot of snow, as the tin will help to keep the roof from collapsing due to the weight of the slow. Investigating all of your roofing options, no matter which plans you choose, is fairly important.

How Many Doors On Your Outdoor Shed?

Another thing to consider when looking for plans is what size doors you want to have. There are some designs that have one single small door and some designs have double doors. If you are planning to put large items in the shed, you may want to get a design with the larger double doors.

If you plan to put double doors in, it will be much easier to put larger items in your outdoor shed. For example, if you plan to store a riding lawn mower in your shed, finding plans that include larger double doors will be essential. If, on the other hand, you only intend to store rakes, snow shovels, and other small items, a single door may be appropriate.

Should You Add A Ramp?

Another thing to consider as you shop for plans is a ramp. A ramp is an easy way to get large items into the shed, such as a lawn mower or a wheel barrow, and it can make things much easier whether you are using small items or large items.

It is fairly easy to build your own durable wood shed. You need and idea of how big of a shed you want and the basic design and look. Then you can find the right set of plans and start building
